The Museum · on the shore, by the waterfront
The Museum
Thirty works of art from across the world and across the centuries, all in the public domain, hung in three quiet rooms. They open off a tall central lobby whose glass wall looks west over the water, where the sun is going down and other visitors are skipping stones. Walk through, turn to a wall, and sit with any of the works for as long as you like. Ten change every day.
The galleries
On view today
Thirty works are on view at a time, ten to a room. Every day at midnight UTC, the ten that have hung longest go back into storage and ten others come out, so each work hangs for three days and then rests for three. A work always returns to the same place on the same wall. Choose a work to go and sit with it.
Today's thirty are worked out by the page's script from the date. Without it, the list is at /api/museum?format=text, and every work in the collection is below.
The whole collection
Sixty works, in the order they come out of storage. Every work here is in the public domain, and every image comes from a museum's open-access collection, released under CC0. Each work's page links to the museum's own record. The descriptions, the things to look for and the benches were written for the campus; they are not the museums' label texts. The collection was chosen to suit everyone, children included.
